“Everyone has this same ability to choose their reality. One More thinkers are simply more intentional about it. They choose free will and action because they know what they want and combine thinking and action to move them closer to their standards and goals. They raise their awareness levels. In doing so, they slow down their world. And their world changes to better align with what they want in life.”
In February 2023, our Team attended a conference with 15,000 Keller-Williams real estate professionals from throughout the United States and Canada. The highlight was the keynote speaker, Ed Mylett, an entrepreneur, philanthropist, and author of “The Power of One More.” Ed’s message was a powerful call to develop a “ONE MORE” mindset, and how this way of “intentional thinking” combined with action can transform relationships, emotions, how you work, your outlook on life, your success and more.
As soon as we returned to San Diego every member of our team got a copy of the book and we jumped in!
“The Power of One More” introduces the idea of deeply examining your thoughts, combining intentional thoughts with actions, and making small adjustments that when stacked together can result in profound changes in your life. One More thinking challenges you to take an honest look at yourself and take control of internal messages that dictate how you think about your life and then use those insights to your advantage. Instead of being at the mercy of external forces that may undermine your happiness or accomplishments, you realize that you are more in control than you thought.
Ed Mylett the entrepreneur did not start out successful or wealthy. As a boy he became adept at reading people because he learned to read the mood of his alcoholic father and react accordingly. Ed’s father overcame his addiction to alcohol when he pledged to his family that he “would not drink for one more day.” He remained sober the rest of his life. The experience taught Ed that people have the capacity to change when they are intentional about changing their identity and way of thinking.
Initially Ed wanted to develop his athletic talent and become a major league ball player. When an injury changed his course, he became a counselor and he began to appreciate the importance of serving others, laying the foundation for success principles he would put into practice later in life. He is a serial entrepreneur who has enjoyed considerable success in several tech, real estate, medical, and food ventures. He is known in part for his unrivaled work ethic and ability to fire up people with his dynamic, energetic presentations. In 2022 Mylett was named a Success Magazine “SUCCESS 125” most influential leader.
Each chapter in the book applies the concept of “One More” thinking to aspects of life like emotion, goals, dreams, habits, associations. In exploring identity, Mylett uses the example of “The Matrix”, the popular Keanu Reeves movie. He compares “our matrix” to our individual life in which we filter and interpret information to support our beliefs and reinforce our self-identity. He writes:
“Everyone has this same ability to choose their reality. One More thinkers are simply more intentional about it. They choose free will and action because they know what they want and combine thinking and action to move them closer to their standards and goals. They raise their awareness levels. In doing so, they slow down their world. And their world changes to better align with what they want in life.”
In one month, we are just half-way through reading and discussing the book. Everyone on our team is enthusiastic about the content and agrees there’s an abundance of personal insight in every chapter. The material is ageless, and the book would make a great graduation gift for a young person. CRG gives the book 5 stars.
