Covid Loss …
In addition to the tragic illness and loss of life caused by Covid-19, many plans have been indefinitely postponed, cancelled completely, or greatly modified.
Think of all the graduations, family reunions, weddings, vacations that have been planned and saved up for. We realize missing these events doesn’t compare to losing a loved one. However, the loss here is real as well.
Our family … all our grown up kids and their families were scheduled to meet up in San Luis Obispo for a family friend’s wedding. This friend was invited or just crashed each of our kids weddings … we’ve all waited along time to see him get married!
Timing was going to be perfect … we’d all be there for the wedding, celebrate Deb’s 60th birthday, and Father’s Day … all taking place within the 4 days we’d all be together in SLO. Alas, our friend and his bride to be understandably changed their plans and were married with family alone.
Adapt and Modify …
We were all disappointed, but understood. Our kids said, “lets all get together in San Diego anyway!” We were certainly game, however, imagine 10 adults and 7 kids under the age of 9 in our 2,500 sqft home, with no pool, and all the difficulty of “going out” in this environment with this size group. Didn’t sound fun to Deb and I at all! Yes, I know we’re very spoiled! That said, everyone, like many of you, were stressed and worn, and really needed a carefree vacation.
That’s when we found this terrific Airbnb in Temecula.
Check it out … Temecula Wine Country
This place had everything … 5 bedrooms (one for each couple/family), over 4,000 sqft, spacious, well equipped kitchen, huge lot with a pool and hot tub and lots of other amenities:
- poker table
- pool table
- corn hole
- horse shoes
- golf practice net
- basketball
- private vineyard
- BBQ
This was the perfect, stay-in-one-place family get-away! We ate well, drank well, and played well … mostly hanging outside at the pool. Day 2 everyone was saying “I don’t have any idea what time it is, and I don’t care!” By Day 3 it was, “I have no idea what day it is and I don’t care!” That’s when you know you’re having a great vacation!
John the host is easy to work with, the home was well stocked, clean, comfortable and nice … not the kind of nice where you’re paranoid you’ll ruin something, but nice in the way perfect for family and large groups.
It may not be like going to NYC or Italy, but for us, at this time, it was better! Highly recommend!
